HEALing Community Health Recognized by American Heart Association for Commitment to Type 2 Diabetes Care and Cardiovascular Risk Reduction
Atlanta, GA — November 24, 2025 — HEALing Community Health announced today that it has earned Participant level recognition in the American Heart Association’s 2025 Target: Type 2 Diabetes Achievement Awards. This recognition highlights HEAL’s ongoing efforts to improve awareness, detection, and management of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular risk factors in the Atlanta metropolitan area.
Diabetes remains a critical public health challenge nationally and locally. Across the United States, an estimated 38.4 million people, about 11.6% of the U.S. population, live with diabetes. African American and Hispanic/Latino adults are nearly twice as likely to have diagnosed diabetes as non-Hispanic white adults.
In Georgia—and throughout metro Atlanta—the challenge is even more significant: more than 12% of adults in the Atlanta metropolitan area have diagnosed diabetes (many cases are undiagnosed), with higher rates in primarily African American and Latino neighborhoods. These communities also experience more complications from diabetes, such as heart disease, kidney problems, vision loss, and amputations.
